Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between simplex and duplex patch cords?
Simplex has one fiber (one direction of data per cable), while duplex has two fibers for sending and receiving at the same time. Duplex is used with most switches and SFP modules.
What is the difference between single mode and multimode?
Single mode (yellow, OS2) is used for long distances, up to many kilometers. Multimode (OM1 to OM4) is used for shorter distances inside buildings and data centers.
What is the difference between UPC and APC?
UPC (blue) has a flat polish, APC (green) has an angled 8° polish with lower back reflection. Always connect APC to APC and UPC to UPC.
How do I choose the right connector?
Check the ports on your device. Most SFP modules use LC, while many media converters and ODFs use SC. Contact us if you need help choosing.
