What is a fiber media converter?
A media converter changes the signal between copper Ethernet (RJ45) and fiber optic. It lets you extend a network over long distances where a normal network cable cannot reach (copper is limited to 100m).
What does A and B mean on the converter?
This is a BiDi (single fiber) converter. The A unit and B unit use different wavelengths, so they must be used together as a pair. Two A units or two B units will not link.
How many media converters do I need?
You need two, one at each end. This product is supplied as an A/B pair (or as individual units, check the variant you select).
Which fiber cable should I use?
Use a single mode simplex SC patch cord (yellow) from the converter to your fiber cable or ODF. Do not use multimode cable with this converter.
What is the maximum distance?
Up to 20km over single mode fiber, depending on the quality of the fiber and the number of splices and connectors.
Can I use it with IP cameras?
Yes. It works with IP cameras, NVRs, switches and PoE switches. Note that the converter does not supply PoE, so you need a separate PoE injector or switch for powered cameras.
